Association of Umbilical Cord Lactate Levels and Capillary Ph with Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy in Neonates Born with Intrapartum Asphyxia

Objective: To estimate the association of umbilical cord lactate levels and pH with Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy in neonates born intrapartum asphyxia.
 Study Design: Comparative cross-sectional study.
 Place Duration study: Pediatrics Department, Pak Emirates Military Hospital, Rawalpindi Pakistan, from February 2021 to April 2022.
 Methodology: The study was conducted on suspicion asphyxia at our hospital. Umbilical capillary were performed within first 30 minutes birth. Then, admitted neonatal intensive care unit followed up for three days look presence severity (HIE). Association ascertained between raised negative base deficit HypoxicIschemic Encephalopathy.
 Results: A total 1000 included final analysis. From asphyxia, 790(79%) did not develop any grade hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy birth, while 210(21%) developed either Grade-I, II or III encephalopathies. Raised serum significantly associated (p-value<0.001).
 Conclusion: Both artery birth study. These results favour as a predictor Encephalopathy.
